Are the actions sufficient to monitor air quality effectively?

What further steps are needed?

Monitor roads bordering LTN where residents have noticed more traffic like Loughborough rd, Coldharbour Lane, Milkwood rd.

Impact on Urban Health's specific feedback on proposals: Air Quality Monitoring 6.1  We’re supportive of efforts to create a ‘new interface’ for accessible air quality data.  Will this interface be bespoke to Lambeth? It may be helpful to draw on the work of Breathe London who have already developed a similar data interface We will soon be undertaking a partnership on community air quality displays in Lambeth and Southwark – working with Imperial College London. The placement and design of the displays will be co-created with residents in a series of workshops led by Centric, TSIP and Hubbub. 6.2 The rollout of air quality monitors by partner organisations sounds like a positive step. We would welcome information on how these partners organisations will be identified. We would be happy to refer Lambeth to some of our programme partners to support these efforts. Public information 7.1 We would be happy discuss whether we might target some of our work on air quality display devices to these priority areas, to help inform what works and appetite for information Engagement We would encourage Lambeth to be very clear on the value of such a forum for participants, and to ensure efforts to gather community insight are equitable and non-extractive. Our programme has a specific focus on amplifying the voices of people most affected by poor air, including community research with Centric and community engagement with creative agency Purpose and artist Love Ssega. We would be happy share learning from that programme of work and explore opportunity for joint-working. We, and our partner organisations, would welcome a conversation on plans for the Air Quality Forum and how we might support Lambeth and promote this opportunity.

If you really want to find out with the people in and around the LTN or driving or you could contact local MOT dealers and ask for the mileage of vehicles that have been with them for years and see if the figure in 2018 is different from 2021. I think you’ll find that we’re all having to drive a lot more and sitting will traffic as we Have to join the main road with all the right runners every time we go anywhere even if it’s local.

The previous monitoring has been haphazard and biased towards certain areas of the borough. The monitoring in the South around Tulse Hill. West Norwood and Norwood has been poor or non existent. Additionally you have only been monitoring NOx and not PM. So there needs to be comprehensive monitoring across the whole borough.
